One of the best books to buy when you start learning is "Easy Korean Reading For Beginners" from TTMK. It's worth your money! And the things you can do with it.
I regret, that i did not use it way more when i started to get faster with reading hangeul.
But you know which exercise i came up with now? Dictation practise (i am brilliant!). And it even works now even when I am on intermediate level.

I need to let this out, because i am unbelievable annoyed:

On YT Korean teaching channels go on and on in every advice video that you should use AI for practising korean by speaking and writing with the AI. ALL of them
Always in big capital letters "USE AI"

But, like, Claude (at least) is so fucking bad with korean, it makes mistakes nearly every time. And i see the mistakes and have to correct them.

I've already gotten quite into the Mastedonage but this seems fun. To be fair, this list changes a lot for me.

This week I'm interested in:

Miiro - Blood | 2025

More than the years before i am actively searching for Korean Artists to listen to and i figured out, if koreans make japanese music I like it 😂 Miiro makes high quality vocaloid music which is super addictive. Based on a story, with a perfect animated music video, Miiro became a gem! Superduper challenge for me: singing along. I am still failing 😂 Enjoy the Video it even has english subs

Line breaks within a paragraph are treated as spaces in Markdown. However, this gives bad results in East Asian languages, where spaces between words are unusual. Use

pandoc -f markdown+east_asian_line_breaks

to ensure that line breaks between East Asian wide characters get ignored.

The extension also works with (commonmark), GitHub Flavored Markdown (gfm), and pandoc's CommonMark extension (commonmark_x).

My husband wanted to read Keigo Higashino’s recent novel, 白鳥とコウモリ, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to do a buddy read.

It’s been so long since I read Higashino!!

So here they are, the Korean translation (by 양윤옥) for him and my two Japanese bunko. Both versions have stunning covers, but mine are more portable hehe :meow_cool:

Three books on a wooden table, cover facing the camera. On the left, a big format softcover book in Korean with a black and white abstract design on the cover. On the right, vol. 1 and 2 of the same book in Japanese. The books are a softcover small format with a city outline seen across a river on the covers, also black and white.

Husband: do you know what 사라다 means?

I didn’t know, but it sounded like a verb. A flow of unrelated verbs start popping into my head: 사다, 살다, 살리다, 사라지다…

Husband: it comes from Japanese.

さらだ? All of a sudden, this word sounded more like a loanword than a verb! サラダ = salada (from Portuguese).

So in Korean there are two words: 샐러드 is the general word for “salad” and 사라다 refers to “Japanese style salad” with fruits, vegetables, nuts and mayonnaise.

@life@social.inhae.blog

It’s funny, I read more or less the same description in two different Korean novels.

A character finds a bag, and is afraid it might contain a corpse. Then they open the bag and actually find themselves face to face with someone, leading the reader to believe that there really was a corpse. Then the narrator reveals that the person they saw was Shin Saimdang…

The character just found a bag full of 50,000W notes!

Not sure if this was the final round of letslearnhangul.com but it finally taught me all the korean letters.

Maybe because we started with them but the consonants seem easier to remember than the vowels so far.

There is a system to that makes learning it easier and somewhat fun! )

This one hour course took me a few weeks or a month of learning.

At the beginning i did as much as 5 lessons per day but near the end i did only 1 per day.

Big thanks to @technicat for suggesting Korean:

Instead of 12-14 different languages a week i've been focussed in on Korean even on daily

This is a post combining my two passions: and , specifically 🇰🇷

A while ago I started doing my easy runs while listening to Korean sentences. The audio I uploaded here is a sample from @tomikorean Grammar Book 2

Advantages:
1️⃣ Running slow in zone 2 gets easy because the focus is not on running, but on repeating sentences. If at any point I don't have enough breath to repeat a sentence, it means that I need to slow down.

The new books have arrived and it seems, we are only now learning "real" korean. It's not a lot of grammar, it's not a lot of new vocabs, but it's a fucking lot of "expressions", actual everyday practise and usage and a ton of reading and writing. Basically now it's immersion time.
We seem to have conquered that drastic middle step and are on the road to finally be honestly able to use the language.
Sogang has honestly such a cool concept. Because it works.

Say hello to Dalgona :)

Named after the sweet: mykoreankitchen.com/dalgona-ca

When he was a baby, somehow he broke his leg, but as he was young enough the vet said it should heal.

They splinted his leg with some lollypop sticks and a bandage, which he kept on for a couple of weeks, and now you'd never know he'd had that injury 😅

I like , especially indie and/or narrative ones (but I'm also an avid player), I dabble in at an amateur level, and I love and - apart from my degree in Korean studies I've studied a handful of them academically or through self-study, and I wish I had more time to pursue and .

Feel free to send a toot if you post about any of my interests - or even if you don't and you just want to say hi!
