I've seen the raw HTML for some #piefed post content showing in the spoilerText field on some platforms via the mastodon api, including #gotosocial, #neodb (takahe/incarnator) and I think #pleroma. My current kludge is to check the spoilerText for html tags (specifically, a beginning <p>).

That would allow me to sort my subscription feed & browse sorted feed, to see ONLY relevant posts (on topic updates follow-up's?).
Well, the mastodon feature of "LISTS" tries something similiar by allowing to make a sorted list of people\subscription, sorted by your custom category/topic. But it doesn't include #tags. Each #tag must be browsed separately, individually, manually, and there is no feature of list of tags in mastodon.
Lemmy, mbin, kbin, piefed and other #reddit #forum like #activitypub implementations allow you to have topics-threads, but each thread does not replicate very well across multiple servers/instances. Can't be easely crossposted ( by pinging multiple category-bots). And doesn't replicate & easily-searchable as classic mastodon #tags.

Other things I don't like:
- twitter like reposts. they make you feel you subscribed not to the original "reposter" friend, but to "reposted content" that you never subscribed for. the #f2f p2p architecture of #scuttlebot (#scuttlebutt) kinda eliminates that, they don't have nor show reposts. you see there only original posts, original content, of friends you follow. Kinda helps to slow down the mind from informational overflow. You can opt out to see posts of friend's friends, if you want more. Tags are also supported there.
- threads consist only of information aggretator url sharing in reddit like clones. Without having OP OC like in bbs|AgoraRoad , they just silo you to clickbait to other web sites.

Hab mal mein #Pleroma aktualisiert, das Frontend von #Soapbox (2+ Jahre keine neue Version) auf "pl-fe" (polish soapbox? jk) umgestellt und auf meinem Android-Telefon etwas installiert was automagisch Lieder zu pleroma scrobbelt.

Jetzt sehe ich am Profil von @np was gespielt wurde… hilfreich ist das überhaupt nicht. Werde wohl dabei bleiben np/music-getaggte Beiträge zu schreiben.

5 Fediverse sites have been hacked due to running outdated software.

Please take a moment to ensure that your instance of Mastodon, Misskey, PeerTube, PixelFed, or any other Fediverse platform is fully up-to-date.

It may also be wise to log into your server and update your operating system.

Debian / Ubuntu servers:

sudo apt update
sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo reboot

Fedora / CentOS / Red Hat / Alma Linux:

sudo dnf update --refresh
sudo dnf upgrade
sudo reboot

If you update your OS, your server will be briefly offline during the reboot. If you have not configured your web services — including your Fediverse service — to start automatically on boot, you may need to start them manually afterward.

Always make a backup before performing upgrades.

If any of this is confusing or feels overwhelming, you should reconsider whether you want to be a server administrator. This is not meant as an insult. It’s great that you wanted to contribute to the Fediverse, but you may be better off participating as a user rather than an admin. People depend on you to keep services running smoothly, and that requires knowing how to maintain your system safely and correctly.

I have almost doubled the number of instances/servers on @directory today! We are up to about 40 and now include Canadian instances in English and French running #Mastodon, #Lemmy, #Pixelfed, #Pleroma, #Peertube, #Akkoma, #Gancio, #Friendica, #Sharkey, and a few custom ones too!

I think I have added everyone who has asked in the past day. If I have responded to you and you aren't on the list, please let me know! There were a bunch and I might have lost one or two in my brain :)

@oblomov I think @tusooa was working on such feature for #Pleroma (see merge request); not sure how that works or how far it got and if it’s working on her instance nowadays. (I hope she won’t mind the mention, either.)

Unfortunately, Pleroma doesn’t even support language tagging yet, so there’s a long way to go. But at least it supports Unicode in custom emoji names, unlike #Mastodon and some others! :gutkato_manĝas_fragon:

I think #Fediverse as a whole has a long way to go toward proper language support. Not just on a technical level, but mentally, too. People first need to recognise that different languages exist and deserve equal support, that people often speak more than just one, that ASCII really isn’t enough for many of them, and so on… these first need be regarded as basic requirements, not as extra fancy features.

Salut le Fediverse, je cherche à autohéberger (sur #YunoHost) un serveur #ActivityPub pour microblogger. Pas trop envie d'installer #Mastodon pour 2,3 comptes qui ne feront que publier automatiquement les actus des projets. Il y a #GoToSocial mais il est en version nowasm (Et ça me semble risqué). Est-ce qu'il y a des utilisateur⋅ices de #Stream ou #Forte qui ont un retour d'expérience à exprimer ? Et dans l'idéal, moins il consomme de ressources, plus ça me convient =)

Il y a aussi #MissKey et #Pleroma (mais je n'ai pas besoin d'une interface graphique qui consomme de la ressource pour rien...)

I’m kinda done with Mastodon. It’s been my main spot, but it’s missing quote posting, which drives me nuts—I just wanna comment on posts without resharing everything! Also, it’s eating up my server’s resources, and I’m running a bunch of stuff on one machine, so I need something that doesn’t hog CPU or disk space.

I used Akkoma with Mangane frontend before and really liked how light and customizable it was. Problem? The database got huge, and I couldn’t find simple tools to clean out old stuff. It was like digging through a messy closet. I’m thinking of trying Akkoma again, but is there a way to keep the database under control?

I’m also looking at Misskey—it seems fun with quote posting and a cool community. But does it use a lot of server resources? How hard is it to back up or move to another server? I’d love Mastodon API support since my clients need it.

One thing about Akkoma that can cause you problems when hosting it is —

It stores media in the databases.

Including caching the profile images and profile headers from random people on the Fediverse.

This can cause your storage-drive to fill up.

I've seen 40% or more of the storage-drive taken up by this caching.

With #WordPress, the difference is more stark. Prior to the change, there was over 9,000 WordPress servers counted. Now the count is at 3,578 servers.

To be sure, I’m not complaining – privacy is important. But it is to say that #ActivityPub user counts should have a big asterisk: many servers have opted out of being crawled. This means they are not being counted.

FediDB says there are 12,923,059 accounts across the #Fediverse. But this is actually drastically higher.

Tokodon supports services that implement the Mastodon Client API. This includes most popular Fediverse software, such as:

Tras una primera inmersión en el #fediverso, estoy pensando en montarme una instancia propia para uso personal (tengo un pequeño servidor Debian en casa). Estoy buscando un servidor compatible con #activitypub ligero y a ser posible multidominio. He descartado #Mastodon por los requerimientos, y ando dudando entre #pleroma , #takahẽ , #GoToSocial o #friendica

Busco algo con una interfaz agradable, sin demasiadas dependencias a cosas raras (estoy acostumbrado a un entorno #LAMP), y que tenga un proyecto mínimamente sólido y con proyección de futuro (soy un señor mayor y estoy en esa fase de no tener que probarlo todo 🙂 ) Ahora mismo tengo cuenta en Mastodon, Pixelfed y Leemy.

My #fediverse server is running the #Sharkey software platform, a fork of #Misskey, to post messages via the #activitypub protocol. You can see my post, even though you may use another platform to participate in the fediverse, like #Mastodon or #Pleroma. So, without using the same platform, we can share messages because we use the same protocol. We have to move from platform-based networking to protocol-based networking. Get rid of the lock-ins, be self-sovereign!

People of the #fediverse, I am going to setup a new personal instance server for just myself and a small group of folks. Are we still happy with #mastodon or is #pleroma best suited? I have experience with Mastodon and know what that is like, not sure of Pleroma.
