For my purposes, groups are simply better.

Ich möchte gerne ein möglichst vollständige Matrix der Features der Fediversesoftwaren erstellen, an prominenter Stelle für alle Interessierten zur Verfügung stellen und Neueinsteigern die Wahl der zu ihren Bedürfnissen passenden Fediversesoftware erleichtern.
Also - wer eine der unten gelisteten SWs kennt, benutzt oder entwickelt und 15 Minuten Lebenszeit erübrigen kann, möge sich bitte bei @LasseGismo melden um das Projekt zu unterstützen.

Discovering the #fediverse gives me the same feelings #linux did years ago. The endless choice, excitement of discovery, clash of philosophies and a community.
I spent years #distrohopping from #ubuntu , #arch , #voidlinux , #nixos etc and then back to arch. Also spent a long time switching desktop environments and window managers like i3.
I started on #lemmy and #mastodon . What do I try next? #selfhost an #activitypub server? Which one?

I would prefer it to be compatible with Mastodon so that I could also use TweeseCake as a client. I need to easily be able to access things such as notifications, follow requests, my own posts, to be able to search for tags, people, my posts etc.
Posting limit of 5,000 characters or more (more preferred.
Ability to pin, unpin, edit, and delete posts.
Ability to filter content, so that I don't see certain words or phrases. (This doesn't work with TweeseCake, so it's not as important as the rest, unless the site is so accessible that I can use it often.)
Ability to select between seeing all posts of someone or only some, and to choose whether to let someone follow me without my seeing his posts or to follow him completely. (Friend versus Subscriber on Friendica).
Extensive profile with keywords. (Keywords may be a Friendica feature, so can be skipped.)
Most people write in English and are not politically, technologically, or gaming obsessed. No radicals of any pursuasion. (the English bit is just to help me find friends on my particular instance.)
Free speech (nothing illegal or homophobic). I personally avoid obscenities.)
If such an instance exists, please tell me. I found https://akkoma.fediverse.observer/list[7] but that's just a list with no real information about each instance. I would have to go through over 400 of them, choose the ones from the UK, Canada, and America (they're the most likely to have English instances), then go through those to see if they meet my requirements, but that's ridiculous.
I am not a programmer, so please don't suggest I start my own instance or join a network that is not set up with a webpage and/or to accept a client, as I know nothing about these things other than that they run on Linux and I'm a Windows user. I just want something that works. Also, if there are any demonstration instances, please let me know. I heard of one where accounts only lasted five days, but it seems to be gone.

Use e teste diferentes aplicativos para ver o que mais gosta. Já usei vários e recomendo o @moshidon para #android (feito pelo @lucas_na_ursal). O #moshidon, por exemplo, permite interagir com a timeline de várias instâncias. Depois coloco uma recomendação aqui de um app para iOS.
Postou uma imagem, um gif ou um vídeo, coloque o texto alternativo. Isso é bem importante e valorizado por aqui. Eu mesmo só dou boost se tiver texto alternativo. Outra dica importante é descrever sua foto e capa do perfil

Ich mache ja immer wieder gern Screenshots von unserer Instanzwolke unserer Instanz und mit welcher Fediverse Zugangssoftware verbunden Instanzen laufen.Sieht imemr noch toll aus, Hubzilla udn Pixelfed Instanz sind dazugekommen und eine Instanz mit einem Mastodon Fork.

Tem algo na plataforma #Akkoma que me incomoda muito e ainda não sei o que é…
Quando eu participava do #Mastodon, me incomodava que não havia algum cliente que permitisse uma boa integração com outras plataformas do #Fediverso. Sem contar ainda que o Mastodon não permite alguns recursos que são triviais em outros espaços, como publicação em Markdown.
Passado mais de um ano no Mastodon, mudei para o Akkoma. Oba! Agora posso escrever publicações 10 vezes maiores, fazer uma pesquisa decente por posts federados (coisa que era impossível no Mastodon), e também publicar só para membros da minha instância. Mas os clientes do Akkoma em geral e por padrão espelham a lógica do #Twitter de engajamento profundo do usuário, colocando notificações chamativas e atualização automática da linha do tempo. Isso é muito evidente no Mangane, que é praticamente a interface moderna do Twitter. Além disso, eu tinha muitas dificuldades em ler textos longos, vindos de plataformas de macroblogging ou de discussão, como #Lemmy ou #Friendica
Por convite, entrei em um projeto praticamente em fase germinal, que imita o #Facebook oldschool, que funciona (mais ou menos) sem Javascript. Esse projeto chama-se #Smithereen. Frequentei por um bom tempo, selecionei alguns companheiros com que gostava de interagir em minha conta Akkoma, a dinâmica da plataforma era bem slow web, tinha uma boa interface para textos longos, tudo corria bem. Mas, projeto beta que era, havia ainda muitas brechas. Não havia uma boa integração com Lemmy (o que era uma pena, já que Smithereen é perfeito para se perder em leituras), e não havia suporte para #hashtags. Quando eu precisava audiência, acabava voltando ao meu perfil Akkoma.
Cá estou de volta. Por sorte, o cliente oficial do Akkoma permite personalizações. Tudo aquilo de que gostei no Smithereen, apliquei à interface. Agora consigo ler textos mais longos, escrever melhor os textos mais longos e a linha do tempo não atualiza automaticamente. No entanto, algo ainda me incomoda. Talvez eu esteja cansado da lógica de seguidores e seguidos, ou da linha do tempo cronológica, que possibilita pouco a exploração pelas publicações. Sei que é difícil encontrar um mínimo múltiplo comum no Fediverso, mas não queria ter mais de uma conta fediversal.
O que vocês pensam de tudo isso? Como tem sido a experiência de vocês na plataforma que estão?

Hallo, ich bin kein smarter Zeitgenosse, der ein Interesse daran hätte, seine Mitmenschen zu übervorteilen. Zähle mich eher zu den tragischen Figuren des Lebens. Auch aus diesem Grunde habe ich antisoziale Medien wie Twitter, X, Facebook und WhatsApp noch nie benutzt. Ich bin ebenfalls kein professioneller Informatiker, der etwas vom Programmieren versteht oder ein IT-Administrator, der über Fähigkeiten verfügt, einen Server zu verwalten. Ich bin einfach nur ein normaler Ruheständler, technisch interesseriert, der jetzt private Zeit übrig hat, Dinge zu tun, die man schon immer machen wollte.
Mit dem Fediverse bin ich erstmalig über #Lemmy in Berührung gekommen. Dann habe ich #Mastodon (vgl. FediDB), #Friendica, #Hubzilla, #Akkoma, #Firefish (z.Z. unmaintained), #Iceshrimp (vgl. FediDB), #Catodon (vgl. Projekt) und #Sharkey (vgl. FediDB), ausprobiert. Jetzt bin ich wieder bei Mastodon gelandet, weil man eben wegen der guten Mastodon-API (Schnittstelle) - auch mit den gerade deshalb reichhaltig verfügbaren Zusatzprogrammen - sehr viel machen kann und alles größtenteils fehlerfrei, ohne Bugs, stets zuverlässig funktioniert. Mein Dank richtet sich an all die tollen Administratoren und kreativen Programm-Entwickler, die dies für uns kostenfrei mit ihrer unermüdlichen Arbeit ermöglichen.
Als meine erste Mastodon Instanz habe ich mastodon.bayern gewählt (visit FediDB). Dieser Account (dieses Profil Matteo (he/him)) verfügt über Formatierungsmöglichkeiten der Mastodon Glitch Edition und einem großzügigen 5000-Zeichen-Limit für Postings.
Als zweite Mastodon Instanz habe ich ausschließlich zum Abonnieren von Nachrichten-Kanälen, für öffentliche Lesezeichen und zum testweisen Gegenlesen social.anoxinon.de gewählt (visit FediDB). Der zweite Account (zweites Profil Matteo (Reader)) verfügt über einen guten automatischen Übersetzer auf DeepL-Translate-Basis für fremdsprachige (nicht nur englische) Artikel und einem standardmäßigen 500-Zeichen-Limit für Postings. Hier meine Nachrichten-Kanäle, die von jedem, dem sie gefallen, kopiert werden können.
Täglich dringen Großkonzerne, staatliche und private Akteure, ungefragt und von den meisten unbemerkt, in die digitale Privatsphäre ein, durchleuchten und bewerten uns anhand der von uns produzierten Daten. Dass sich noch immer kein Widerstand in der Bevölkerung gegen die Vermessung unserer Person regt, ist auf eine ganz besondere Eigenschaft von Daten zurückzuführen: Man kann sie weder fühlen noch schmecken oder riechen. Nach meiner Auffassung kann informationelle Selbstbestimmung aber nur dann gelingen, wenn wir das Wissen darüber haben, wer, wie, wann und wo unsere Daten im Hintergrund abgreift, speichert und verarbeitet.
Für die gemeinnützige Gestaltung einer digitalisierten Welt braucht es digital souveräne Menschen, die über ein Verständnis von digitaler Kultur und Technik verfügen, die die selbstbestimmte Nutzung von Daten voranbringen, die Privatheit und IT-Sicherheit als schützenswerte Güter achten.
Genau deshalb interessiert mich das Fediverse so sehr. Der Schutz meiner Privatsphäre und meines familiären Umfeldes sind mir wichtig. Deshalb benutze ich hier keinen Klarnamen, sondern das Pseudonym Matteo. Es gibt ein Recht auf geschützte Meinungsfreiheit.
Mit dieser privaten Mini-Web-Page auf Mastodon beschreibe ich meine persönlichen Erfahrungen mit dem Fediverse und würde mich freuen, wenn andere User ein wenig davon profitieren. Bei den hier dargestellten Sachverhalten handelt es sich um meine subjektiven Wahrnehmungen, die unvollständig sein könnten. Die von mir daraus hergeleiteten Schlussfolgerungen, sind möglicher Weise nicht zwingend oder frei von Irrtümern. Entsprechende Kommentare eurerseits sind stets willkommen.

A small compendium of the Fediverse platforms I use/know well.
In the past few days, I revisited some of my old Fediverse instances since some friends asked me to help them set up a new one. I also took the chance to perform maintenance on some leftover instances. Here's my experience:
Akkoma: My oldest instance still running, opened in 2022. It was offline for a few months (3/4). I updated everything to the latest version and restarted it. I’m not sure why, but it’s extremely slow, with a heavy load on Postgres and many queries just to open the main page. I like Akkoma - I'll investigate further.
GoToSocial: I updated a friend's instance - GoToSocial itself was up-to-date, but the underlying system wasn’t. I noticed that once it exceeds 2000 followings, it becomes a bit slow. The database is PostgreSQL, but that's not the issue. The GoToSocial process becomes somewhat heavy on the VPS. Still, it's very usable and a software with great potential, in my opinion. The Mastodon API is implemented quite well and works with the major software.
Mitra: It seems well-built. The person had around 1000 followers and followings on a Mastodon account, which they moved from a large instance. No speed issues, though sending a message makes the server “heavy” for a bit, but it’s temporary. The Mastodon API is partially implemented, but the software is advancing quickly, and I find its native interface quite pleasant.
Snac2: I've always had a soft spot for Snac2. The lack of a database and some design choices make it an excellent solution for small instances. For example, sending posts to all known instances increases visibility and interaction. Its basic, JavaScript-free interface is very clear, though it might not be the best for those used to Mastodon. But the Mastodon API is improving version by version, and I think the developer is doing an excellent job. It struggles a bit with larger numbers, but that's due to the underlying file system, not the software itself. If "move" support (both in and out) were added, I would recommend it to anyone starting self-hosting for single-user or small community instances because "move" is one of the options that gives the most freedom in Fediverse software.
Mastodon: My “old” personal instance was stuck at version 4.1.x and had been offline for a few months. I updated the FreeBSD Jail and upgraded Mastodon to 4.2.12 and then to 4.3.0-beta1. No issues. I also helped a friend (who had an old Pleroma-based instance they barely used) migrate. This user has around 5000 followers and followings - Mastodon is running on FreeBSD on a VPS (arm64) for just over 3 euros a month, with no significant issues (apart from media storage, but that's not Mastodon’s fault). Mastodon is sometimes said to be heavy, and that's partly true, but its modularity ensures that even in cases of overload, queues may slow down, but navigation and the local timeline remain reasonably fast. I think this is a good thing for any larger-scale use of an instance.
In short, I think things are moving in the right direction, and the software is evolving nicely. Well done, devs!

Ja es gab ja noch andere von mir nicht erwähnte #Misskey Forks, von denen jetzt wohl sowieso niemand mehr etwas erwartet.
Irgendwie sind alle diese Projekte leider nicht so recht vorangekommen, weil man die Komplexität des Codes unterschätzt hat. Es gab einfach kein harmonisches Entwickler-Team, das mit genügend Manpower die Herausforderungen konstruktiv angehen könnte.
Für mich als Normal-User ist der reduzierte Ansatz von #Mastodon und #Akkoma jetzt einfach attraktiver, mit einer schlechte Oberfläche, aber sehr guter API. So habe ich halt einen kompatiblen, gut funktionierenden Dienst, dessen minimalistische Oberfläche ich über einen sehr guten Web-Client ausgleichen kann.

Diese ausbaufähige Mini Web-Page (einfaches Posting) ist eigentlich so etwas wie meine kostenlose Homepage auf Mastodon, sogar mit einer simplen Blog-Funktion. Beitrag öffnen (Klick), zeigt den Mini Blog (Thread-Darstellung mit einfachen Antworten). Es wird hier niemand von mir getracked.
Ein weiterer Vorteil gegenüber anderen Homepages oder Blogs ist, dass jeder Beitrag dieses Threads über jede andere Social Media Plattform des Fediverse, die ActivityPub unterstützt, direkt kommentiert und gerne auch von mehreren Lesern kontrovers diskutiert werden kann. Klar doch, bleiben wir immer nett zu einander 😀

L'objectif est d'avoir de la manière la plus synthétique possible une comparaison assez complète des différents logiciels, prioritairement côté utilisation.

Quelqu'un a fait un comparatif ?
¹ soit complètement (ex:formater un message) et non compatibles, soit compatible en lecture (ex: tel logiciel peut voir, mais pas faire la même chose).
