Version 2.4 of "Famsite", my self-hosted social media site, now features my Faceclick Emoji picker. (I'll be releasing Faceclick itself soon, I just need to finish the README.)

The Emoji picker more than doubled the size of the project, it's over 100Kb now. But hey, you can still fit 10 copies on a floppy! 💾

Also note that 2.1 added the grouping of daily word game result comments, a huge improvement for _my_ family. 😃

Apple has provided around 4K emoji! Most, if not all, have ambiguous meanings. At least there were a fixed set of Egyptian hieroglyphs, and a fixed set of Kanji. Apple, why?

I feel like these two should just be shipped default with #GNOME, the flow of just hitting `super+.` anywhere, starting to type the #emoji you want and hitting `Enter` to have it pasted regardless of which app you're using is just great 🚀. One of the things #windows did well and I'm so happy I can have it on #Linux too 😄

Changed my #OpenBSD writing-dedicated box from running #cwm to #i3wm -- I like cwm, but it's still a bit too mousey for my taste.

I also changed all of my fonts (both xterm and i3/i3status) to be bitmapped (the "fixed" font), so everything is looking REALLY crisp.

Maybe I'm getting quite crochety, but at this point, I think I'd much rather have a lower res screen with crisp bitmapped fonts than a crazy high-res screen and vector fonts.

The only thing I'm missing is #emoji. My i3status looks like

Okay, #introduction time! I'm Ell, and I love figuring out how things work. Been having a very gendery time as of late, getting to know my #trans #femme self in my 30's has been just so wonderful.

Dayjob is software dev, but I also studied #ElectricalEngineering and am always tinkering with and fixing things, both #hardware and #software.

Interests more or less at random: I do a lot of playing with #data and finding useful ways to present it, which results in various #maps and #charts.

Things I can talk a lot about include #emoji, how the internet works, and #space.

I'm into amateur #astronomy, I've got a small #telescope 🔭 and am always thrilled to use it to share the cosmos with folks.

I play the #piano reasonably well, #guitar and #clarinet less so, and enjoy singing as long as you don't hold me to the lyrics 😄​

I don't play a ton of games, but I've put a bunch of hours into #HollowKnight and still stream it occasionally, and also adore #Transistor and #Celeste. Also into #boardgames and such!
