As we integrate #OpenAlex data into the #Bonfire #OpenScience flavor, we're displaying familiar metrics: works count, citations, h-index, research topics, institutional affiliations...
These might be exactly what you need, or perhaps just a starting point.
What additional information would help you find collaborators or understand someone's work better?
We're opening this design process to the open science community. Share what works, what doesn't, what's missing.

It's now basically impossible to log in to @EUCommission portal if you use GNU/Linux or other libre platforms.
The "EU Login Mobile App" is closed-source, which I refuse to install. No passwd or libre OTP option available.
It's a disgrace that the #EU forces their citizens to use propietary, closed source operating systems and applications.
Now we can not update news or releases of #GNUhealth in OSOR/JoinUP/Interoperable Europe until they change this rubbish portal. And we've been there since 2011.

This is great, really love it. I recently overhauled the #Fediverse Experience curated list, with a different taxonomy to highlight more innovative #ActivityPub areas other than those where adoption is already going strong.
The #OpenScience section still has disappointing few entries, so I am delighted to add @encyclia as newcomer.

Re: #AcademicMastodon + #OpenScience. I'm initiator of Delightful #commons for people to keep curated directories. Similar to Awesome on #github except only for open resources.
There's 2 lists I want to bring to attention. First one, the #ActivityPub #fediverse experience. It needs more open science entries 💪
https://delightful.coding.social/delightful-fediverse-experience/
2nd list needs co-maintainers with #academic background because this list requires quality and rigour I can't deliver:

🚀1 year since we left #X / #Twitter
Our move to #Mastodon wasn't just a platform switch. It was a leap into #OpenScience in action.
We found a chance to align our communication w/ our values: transparent, meaningful, dialogue-driven.

🆕 Out now: our study on #academic staff engagement on #Mastodon
🔗 Summary
https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15582839
💡 While Mastodon is valued for its ethical positioning, continued engagement hinges more on social and institutional dynamics than on technical features alone
➡️Ethical concerns drive adoption
➡️Peer presence matters more for staying than joining
➡️Academic institutions could be game-changers by leading adoption instead of waiting for grassroots growth

Open science forms the pillar for mankind to invent a better world, and a society worth living in. Or so it should be, if academia weren’t held captive or willing prisoner to commercial interests. Fediverse opens new grazing grounds for #scientists, #engineers, or anyone for that matter, to uncover new #wisdom and #insights collectively.
If only more #OpenScience tools would add #ActivityPub support to join our #fediverse.
But we have @bonfire Open Science app, and @scifed as early adopters.

@Linux this is very nice useful info. Thank you!
This could be a candidate service, and possibly a delightful commons-based curated list (hosted by #SocialCoding commons). Have a script update the markdown on a regular basis, using #codeberg CI and a cronjob.
Delightful project, which I initiated, is evolving atm and being repositioned. The new name is Delightful #commons and still all about "delightful gems of freedom" i.e. gathering great #FOSS, #OpenData, and #OpenScience related resources.

Social media is as social as Las Vegas where #SocialMedia #advertisement giants as telecom providers of society, take care of the lightshow to lure us in.
@Sironimo and Jonas Kießling argue for more deliberate design of our communication mechanisms. The #SocialWeb of #ActivityPub and #Fediverse gives control back to people, allows us to rethink how we want to interact. There's a big role for #OpenScience to help #FOSS devs address needs in #society and #ReimagineSocial.

It takes a lot of collective effort to improve psychology, and it's so important to recognize that work.
I appreciate that the SIPS Awards 🏆 celebrate projects rather than individuals, highlighting the value of collaboration.
Take a moment to explore past awardees and consider nominating a project you admire, especially those led by Global South communities, minoritized groups, or in languages beyond English. 🌍

✨🔭 The night sky is rapidly getting brighter
Artificial lighting that escapes into the sky causes it to glow, preventing humans and animals from seeing the #stars. Citizen scientists reported global rapid reductions in the visibility of stars. Trends in the data showed that the average night sky got brighter by 9.6% per year from 2011 to 2022, which is equivalent to doubling the sky brightness every 8 years.

Everybody knows that efficient, cost-effective and high-quality scholarly publishing is possible. One of the themes for #FluConf2025 is "open licensing and business models".
A lot of people on the fediverse will probably take that to mean *software licensing*, but we're interested in a much broader range of topics.
We want to hear about open licenses for scientific publications, data, art, games, text, and whatever else we haven't thought of.
Share why you think it's important. Write about how overly permissive commons are being enclosed by corporations. Tell the world how you choose licenses for your own creations, and how others licensing choices influence your perception of their projects.

What better time than #OpenAccessWeek for Computo's first toot?
Hello, fediverse! Computo is a journal of the French Statistical Society (but don't worry, everything is in English), and our goal is to publish computational/algorithmic contributions in statistics and machine learning in a reproducible, open access way. Our papers are submitted as notebooks, and you can read them as html or pdf files.
Curious about what this can look like? Take a look at the articles we've already published https://computo.sfds.asso.fr/publications/
(And yes, we'll get that little checkmark next to the computo URL soon.)

👋 Hi, #scholars, tell us, why are you on #Mastodon?
🔍 We are researching how and why academics use Mastodon compared to other platforms. Is it key for #academic #discourse?
🔜 We'll launch our #research survey by mid-October, so stay tuned.
📣 Meanwhile: what features of Mastodon do you find most valuable for academic discourse?
And which other questions should we include in our research, you think?

Having moved over to #HumanitiesCommons yesterday, I believe it's time for a proper #introduction 👋🏽
Hi, I'm Toby, and am currently working as product manager of @Thoth_metadata - prior to that, I have been project manager on the Community-led Open Publication Infrastructures for Monographs (COPIM) project.
With a background in Cultural and Media Studies (MA in Television Studies), I am interested in exploring #OpenScholarship practices in their many facets - currently with a focus on scholar- and community-led #OAbooks #radicalOA #OpenInfrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences 📚
For the last thirteen years, I've worked in projects that sought to foster uptake of #OER and #OpenEducation practices, #FLOSS tools for teaching and learning, & #OpenScience in more general terms and in a variety of configurations.
Btw. 2012-2018, I did a part-time PhD project on TV & Cultural Memory but eventually decided to step away bc. of personal/health reasons ... #mediastudies #commodon
@aeryn_thrace@mastodon.social
The most radical idea in #OpenScience is to gently take researchers by the hand and patiently teach them, 1 on 1, how to do useful #OpenScience documentation, using evidence-based pedagogy grounded in the equally radical idea that science is done by mere humans, warts and all.
Writing policy and imposing it top-down without effective implemented pedagogy cannot create the change we need.

New article! I compared climate opinion in NZ and Australia and found:
- Climate opinion is more polarised in Aus than NZ *but*
- More people see climate as high importance in Aus than NZ
- For most people, climate change is a cultural (not economic) issue
- Being culturally conservative is associated not just with being a "hard" climate denier, but also with being "lukewarm" on climate action

All human subjects research in psychology should report the date range of data collection alongside the basic demographics in the method section. We seem to have a consensus that some demographic description of the sample should be available to readers by default; the approximate historical context is surely similarly important. The publication year is not a good proxy due to the highly variable duration of each stage of the research and publication process.

Now that this instance is officially open, I suppose it is time for an #introduction! I'm involved in #DigitalHumanities, with a focus on #Computational Literary Studies, #French #Literature and #OpenScience. I work at #Trier University in Germany and co-direct, with Claudine @moulin, the Trier Center for Digital Humanities (@tcdh). I'm also involved in @DHd and #ADHO. – This is my personal, academically-oriented account. See also: https://toot.io/@christof

English #introduction (Spanish #introduction was much more detailed). Retired teacher of English, restudying #philosophy (#metaethics, #PhilosophyOfSciences, #Consciousness) at a different pace. Mostly a has-been, user of #FreeSoftware for more than twenty years, writer of docs and for some time teacher trainer about #FreeEducationalSoftware. Translator of free software, see #eXeLearning. Hopes in #LinuxMobile #MobileLinux and #OpenScience

#Introduction Hi all I am Elisa Fadda, I use HPC to rebuild the structure of the invisible complex carbohydrates or #glycans in biomolecules (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cbpa.2022.102175) and to understand their *many* functions in #viralinfection, #hostpathogen interactions, and in biological processes where sugars rule. I am a huge supporter of #openscience and long-time affiliate of #bioRxiv. I like cats and in particular @MULibraryCat 👍 😊 Here promoting #glycotime and happy to rebuild a wonderful community 👋
