I already had the new account registered at my own pixelfed instance, because I thought it would be cool having them on my instance.

But before going public with it, I thought about it again and again.

Then I was putting my own ego aside, because I had to admit, that it's more important for them, having a software running which has less bugs and where everything works as expected.

So I deleted their account on my own instance and registered a #mastodon account.

I'm owning a Pixelfed instance, and pay every month some money for it.

I was voluntering to run a #Fediverse account for a German festival.

But I deceided to NOT USE my #Pixelfed instance for them, so I registered a #Mastodon account.

Even I still think, Pixelfed can at one point become a real cool thing, I decided myself it's better for the festival to not use Pixelfed, but a more bug free Fediverse software.

Doing this, felt really bad, but it was the right decison for the Festival.

I started building @pixelfed in April 2018, just weeks after the ActivityPub spec was published.

I delayed federation support in light of some fediverse meta that happened in the summer of 2018, and someone even made a doespixelfedfederateyet website that said "No." until Dec 2018.

People joked about Pixelfed a lot, then the vibe changed when I shipped ephemeral Stories using LitePub + Bearcaps in 2019.

8 years later, we're still here and thriving!

Has dev on #pixelfed stalled? Feels like nothing has changed or improved over the last few years 🤔

Since there is no revoking sessions in Pixelfed, and changing password doesn't log you out of any sessions, be careful with your Pixelfed credentials.

If you use Pixelfed and your account gets hacked, you can't do anything. Perhaps contacting Dansup is the only option.

I’d like to ask whether there are any plans (not necessarily in the short term, just whether it’s on the roadmap at all) to support multi-account usage in the #Pixelfed mobile app?

I’m asking because in my previous post (in Hungarian), I wrote about migrating our private Pixelfed instance—which the two of us use—from my NAS to my server. I also mentioned that if native multi-account support becomes available on mobile someday, I’d consider launching my own public Pixelfed instance as well. At the moment, constantly logging in and out would be quite inconvenient for me.

Well that's why I tried to go to my profile > settings > application where I did not find any previous token nor was I able to create a new one....

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but cannot find what. (Error messages are not very informative neither from the API nor the UI. And documentation is still incomplete)

@pixelfed I know a new version is being developed at the moment. Just wanna point out that push notifications seem to have issues. I get a notification if someone on another platform leaves a comment, but for comments/replies on pixelfed I get nothing. I also wish reblogs/boosts will work in the new version. #pixelfed @dansup

Maybe someone who knows more about #federation might be able to help me here: So my single-user #Pixelfed instance is sitting on a 20GB PSQL database after just one year. Is there any way to make this more viable in the long term, like getting rid of old post info I got like 1 year ago from other servers? Or any other way to improve the storage efficiency here? Fast forward to 2026 and I've shipped half a dozen SPA's across the fediverse, including https://joinloops.org, https://fedidb.com, https://fediverse.info and https://loops.video

And 3 react-native mobile apps.

Now I am building a whole new Pixelfed frontend from scratch, and I couldn't be happier.

It's about time for to shine ✨

Redesigning and refactoring a production website is one thing, but when it comes to open platforms that federate, with popular APIs consumed by dozens of clients and prioritizes uptime for half a million users, it can get tricky.

You know I love a good challenge, and I did this a year ago with Loops.

Now it's Pixelfeds turn.

I'm building a fresh new interface and our own API, then I'll focus on fixing federation, and then I'll redesign our mobile app.

One step at a time ✨

I spent the last few hours removing the existing frontend, adding the new scaffolding (partially based on Loops) and creating reusable components based on our new design system to keep everything consistent.

Performance has improved noticeably by removing middleware that checked 2FA and valid email on every request, as we now handle that during authentication.

Can't wait to ship this ASAP, and for the Loops fam, I'll be back 😎

Not only is it so much prettier and cleaner, but it's also so much faster and responsive.

Remember Loops webUI in 2024 and how much better it is now?

Yeah, it's like that, but even better.

I'm not going to tease screenshots, I'd rather ship this ASAP so you can see yourself.

I'm not sure on which side the error is, but I'm not able to follow from my Pixelfed account my Holos account.

In the Pixelfed app I don't see a follow button, in the browser I can click many times, number goes up, but after a reload it's 0.

@dansup and Tom (@HolosSocial ) I'm not sure where the error is. Following from Mastodon was possible...

Accounts I used are @joergi@punk.photos (Pixelfed) and @joergi@holos.social (holos)

Since several days, I can't follow @riversidebryan@social.lol anymore... I can see him/his posts from other accounts, but not from my Pixelfed.social one.

Did he/his instance get blocked??

I know many people followed @RiversideBryan@pixelfed.social, but he switched back to Mastodon, and I would like to be able to keep following him and his pictures.

Please let me/us know why pixelfed.social isn't showing the social.lol account... Thanks in advance!

@notwhatwethink Really trying to get people off of these systems by adopting #ElementMatrix #fediverse #lemmy #pixelfed #startmail and such. WhatsApp is so embedded in this part of the world, it can be hard for people to download another app. Do it anyway. You do not ever have to use the #oligarch #enshittified version of the internet. We can all just stop going to the ai websites, apps and oligarch magapedo bro tech. I mean right? We can do better. #NOLIGARCHY #resist

so to continue on where I left off with this I was back at the profile of @atemptatsonor still with the #Pixelfed account logged in and I click "Follow for Updates" which leads me to the my the login screen of pixelfed.social which I then login to and am greeted by this empty profile that says "This profile is private" but I know that is not the case cause it doesn't says that anywhere on https://bandwagon.fm/@atemptatsonor

Monday mornings mean: my weekly ritual of manually backing up my #YunoHost installation (my VPS does automatic daily backups of the whole VPS, but I say: better safe than sorry).

This latest backup is pretty big, because of my increased use of #NextCloud. So in reverse order, from biggest to smallest we have:

3) #NextCloud: 3.7 GB
4) #Pixelfed : 1.6 GB
5) #LinkStack : 92 MB
6) #Fail2Ban : 362kb
