From @aaj : Trumpeter #rexrichardson is a veteran of the acclaimed chamber ensemble Rhythm & Brass, jazz legend Joe Henderson’s Quintet and Sextet, William Russo’s Chicago Jazz Ensemble, and the Brass Band of Battle Creek, known as the world’s “Rolls Royce of Brass Bands” (Brass Band World), he stays busy as a headline artist at international brass and jazz festivals and as a soloist with orchestras, concert bands, brass bands and jazz ensembles on six continents. He has collaborated with Brian Blade, Benny Carter, Ray Charles, Mike Clarke, Dave Douglas, Kurt Elling, Carl Fontana, Aretha Franklin, Wycliffe Gordon, Stefon Harris, Conrad Herwig, Dave Holland, Dave Liebman, Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Arturo Sandoval, Bobby Shew, Bill Watrous, and many others. Dave Douglas has called him “A national treasure.”

It was only recently I learned #jazz pianist Johnny Costa, music director and musician for Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, with his trio (Carl McVicker Jr. on bass; percussionist Bobby Rawsthorne) played all the #music live in studio for each episode. As a #musician and #actor, this is fabulous to me!

After Mr. Costa’s death in 1996, Michael Moricz succeeded him to continue the program’s live music tradition. Additionally, Mr. Rogers composed more than 200 melodies, including lyrics, for the show.

Mike Wofford Tribute We pay homage to pianist Mike Wofford in this episode's first set. Mike passed away last week at age 87. He was a giant in the Socal jazz scene, playing with the great West Coast artists of the 60's, accompanist to Sarah and Ella in the 80's, as well as scores for Hollywood and TV. Saw an absolutely banging show at our local beachside jazz club tonight! Sarah Hanahan and her quartet brought incredible energy, just blew the roof off the place.

What started out as a stunning afternoon turned golden when band and audience together went outside during set break to watch #whales splashing around just off the beach. We watched the sunset as we rode our bikes back home down the coastal trail. Just a magical afternoon really.

Chill Out This episode is my Chill Playlist. Starting with Miles & Trane is a fine way to begin. While it is laid back on the surface, many of the tunes start chill, but gain in intensity. Branford's Hope is a great example of this. I especially dig Joe Henderson's take on Lazy Afternoon.

I feel like a re-introduction is long overdue!

My name is Anna, and I'm an assistant professor of Algorithmics at the Delft University of Technology, specialising in combinatorial optimisation, symbolic AI, constraint programming, propositional model counting, operations research and reasoning under uncertainty.

I'm a nerd, a feminist and a traveller, not always in that order.

In my spare time I like to hike and go geocaching. I try to go swing dancing a few times a week. I am a Trekkie. I want to learn how to draw. I am an Indomie and Obsidian enthusiast. Based in the Netherlands, I miss Belgium, Canada and Singapore.

Since a job in academia somehow always is personal, I have chosen to mix professional interactions with the more personal ones on this platform. At least for now. Obviously, my opinions do not necessarily reflect those of my employer yadiyadiyada.

In 1976, Sesame Street had a segment in rotation called “Pinball Number Count.” The music is captivating, hopping between 4/4, 4/3, and 5/4 time signatures. And the animation is bursting with color and life. It has forever lived in my head.

Fun fact 1: the song counts to 12, but there were only 11 segments.

I just watched a very interesting bio of #HazelScott on #PBS #AmericanMasters.

Scott was a #Black woman who was a #MusicalProdigy who was enrolled at #Julliard at a very young age, who mastered the classics but who made a living mainly playing jazz & #popular music w/crossovers to classical music.

Hazel was married (for a time) to #AdamClaytonPowell, had the 1st TV show in the 50's staring a #Black performer before #NatKingCole got one, made a few movies on her own terms before being #BlackListed from the #movies & from #TV because she stood up for the herself & the rights of others & who lived for a time in #Paris, like a lot of Black creative people did to escape the discrimination they felt in the #US.

Now seems like a good time for a re- #introduction.

I'm Aaron/ansuz. Most people know me as a him but I'm ok with any pronouns.

Earlier in my life I was a multi-instrumentalist musician. I branched out of #jazz into #procgen (procedural generation) and self-organization, which slowly exposed me into the worlds of #p2p, #meshnetworks, and #cryptography.

I dropped out of a #cognitivescience degree at the university of Toronto in 2014 and have been a professional software developer since. I'm currently one of the privacy researchers developing @cryptpad. Beyond privacy-enhancing tech I have a deep interest in multi-party and provably fair computation, particularly their applications in game design.

I was born in so-called-Canada but haven't been a resident since 2015, when I moved to France (where I eventually met my spouse - a neuroscientist and advocate of academic reform). We've since lived in the US and now India. I'm fluent in various dialects of English, I can get by in #Français, and I'm slowly learning #Hindi.

I like to follow scientists/researchers, particularly in the fields of #biology, #evolution, #ecology, #astronomy, #climate science, digital #commons, #statistics / #datascience. Hi I'm Pierre, changed from Lego geek to computer geek at 11 when I touched a computer; they weren't that common in '80.
Studied computing at uni, became software #developer. Worked in several #startups, but not only.

One of the things I dig about Mastodon is a bit of a slower, and more thoughtful, pace of receiving info. It allows me - us - to actually give maybe more real thought & attention to an issue, or an artist's work, or an example of social injustice that appears in our feeds

On other social networks, we are bombarded with fresh hells every 18 seconds, making us tend to react as fast as pinballs hitting bumpers, never being able to fully digest nor think through what we just read
