FYI, though the Wēibó feature was introduced rather early, later Chinese websites including Dǒuyīn and REDnotes follow the Twitter style, where users would still type and add spaces. (So Twitter style hashtags are not unfamiliar to their users.) Some Wēibó users even seem not to know the difference and break all their hashtags.
