Thanks for your feedback on the kinds of ORCID records you'd like to follow! It may influence how Encyclia will try to help you find them.
For the next question, let us flip it around: how do you feel about your own ORCID record being potentially available to follow on the fediverse in the future?
We put some work into the question of what privacy protections may be needed and whether an opt-out model is justified: https://encyclia.pub/optin-optout-analysis

Are auto boosting bots usefull to you? Have they actually resualted in your posts getting seen and more likes/boosts from human accounts?
The #fediverse has #bots that seem to auto #boost #posts about just about any popular hashtag, with the creators of these bots usually centralised.
edit: like i'l see a bunch of them coming from one specific server.

2) Ich würde vielleicht still folgen.
3) Ich würde folgen und ggf mal was boosten.
4) Ich würde die Angebote an Freund*innen in Wien, die Kinder haben, weiterleiten.
-----------------------------
If I started an account here in the Fediverse about animal assisted education with a focus on Vienna, Austria, would you follow, boost, share outside the Fediverse?
Animal assisted education is mainly education outside school, where kids and adolescents are accompanied over a longer period of time and are fostered by forming bonds with the animals.
I wouldn't mainly post promotional offers, but a lot of info, knowledge, studies and of course lots of cute animal pictures.
I want to know if it already makes sense creating such an account in the Fediverse.
The poll options are:
1) I'm not interested
2) I'd silently follow
3) I'd follow and occasionally boost
4) I'd share the offers with friends near Vienna Austria, who have kids.

#Hollo everyone!
We'd like to hear your thoughts on something we've been considering.
As you know, Hollo has always been focused on self-hosting—this won't change, and our source code will continue to be available under the AGPLv3 license.
We're exploring ways to make the project more sustainable, and we're considering offering a hosting service for those who regularly support us with a certain amount through @opencollective.
This would be an additional option for those who want to use Hollo without managing the technical aspects themselves. Of course, you'll still be able to self-host just like you do now.

Is it okay to be sad? Like, with everything going on in the world, my life is not that bad, no?
I have a good job that pays enough for me to have an apartment, a car, I never go to bed hungry, I don’t have anyone I need to support financially — not to brag or nothin’ but my life’s pretty good. Yet I’m still depressed. Is this okay?
Validate me or educate me #fediverse, let’s go.

This time round, the "Trump bump" isn't showing up for media outlets who, during the president-elect's first term, saw huge ratings, reports @AxiosNews's Sara Fischer. She cites research that two-thirds of Americans felt the need to dial down political news consumption post-election.
However there are little pockets where things are booming, including independent media — at the second link, @CNN's Brian Stelter writes about how The Guardian U.S. has seen a significant increase in immediate and pledged contributions that make up the majority of the outlet's annual revenue.

#POLL - PLEASE VOTE AND BOOST
TO CONVINCE @Gargron it is time to make Mastodon character limits admin-configurable in the Mastodon interface.
It is only configurable now through custom modification of the mastodon code which limits who can do this to those who have direct access to the server installation of their instance and complicates updates and maintenance.
PLEASE vote YES for Admin Configuration.
Below is the comment I made on GitHub for the feature. I suggest a default of 500 with the absolute maximum tracking whatever is highest in the industry (currently 25,000 X Premium). Feel free to upvote here https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/12265
— GitHub comment —
The world has moved on from character limits being set in stone. Most importantly, and still most influentially, X, TikTok, Facebook, Insta and LinkedIn now allow over 1000 characters. Comparison below from [this buffer post.](https://support.buffer.com/article/588-character-limits-for-each-social-network) as of October 31, 2024.
In the spirit of ease of decentralization and independence, it makes sense that this would be configurable at the admin level so that the owner can make this choice without touching the infrastructure server level.
I would suggest that the best course of action would be for Mastodon to make it a configurable option with a default of 500 and an absolute maximum that tracks the highest of other platforms which would currently be 25,000 (X Premium).
This should be a high priority to increase the competitiveness of the platform as people move away from corporate social media.
Thank you
Chris

What's the post character count limit for your instance on Mastodon?
Meaning, when you make a post here on Mastodon, how many characters per post can you type?
For example, currently #AllThingsTech has the default Mastodon 500 character count limit.
If your instance has more than a 1,000 character count limit, please comment and let me know.
Please BOOST for maximum exposure to the #Fediverse

Did you know that up to 17% of people answer polls before reading the instructions?
I want you to think about *all* the gendered expectations that exist in your culture/society/family/social group/brain.
Got 'em? Good. Now think of where those expectations differ from your experience/preference.
Now check off *all* the categories below where your experience/preference differs (or differed) from the expectation.
For example: as a little kid, I would go to a friend's house and we'd play together. Sometimes their (differently gendered) sibling was there and their parents would make us include them. I secretly liked when this happened, because it gave me the opportunity to play with both the sibling and their toys while maintaining plausible deniability. So I'd check off "friends" and "toys/games" below.
