Is the we have capable of avoiding as it grows and attracts an increasing number of corporations, who make it their market?

Is our landscape resistant to corporate capture and eventual takeover and domination? Just like the Corporate Web, also decentralized.

There are nice niches on the web, like a bloggosphere, bulletin boards, and news readers, that all still exist. But web as a whole is predominantly corporate, arguably not commons based, for the people by the people.

Social experience design defines "commons based" as "where people are in control of their future on a path of healthy evolution and natural growth". A core principle is being sustainable at all times, and timely acknowledge and mitigate risks.

Is fediverse commons based? Did we cocreate the Future of Social networking?

I almost answered yes. No one can hurt us. This is the answer I feel good, but it needs to carefully take advantage of it. An example is Thread, which tried, or faked to try, to join the Fediverse. At least Meta tried to take advantage of it.

So yes, decentralisation is a strength. It will not do everything though.

Taking care of their own herd, the users that flocked to their platform, they form narrow bridges, so a user may graze a bit of the grass in the adjacent meadow that is owned by a fellow dev.

The intermediate results of the I started also strongly emphasize these points. What is nice is that people tell about their social experience, which is uniquely personal depending on individual needs and the social graph they have formed to engage with.

Decentralized + federated are merely technical characteristics. But they are enablers of something more.. true social spaces that evolve and intricate social contexts that intertwine in interesting ways.

People who have used induction hobs before - would you prefer touch controls (like touchscreen on a phone) or physical knobs and dials?

Because I saw your post and thought ‘oh but my timeline isn’t quiet’.. but rather than you having to find those 100s of accounts to follow to make it interesting, a pack supports different lists of accounts based on different interests. If they get it right (as they’ve got quotes right imho) then it could be really nice, and still no algo.

So I just read something and that makes me wonder...

Do people with aphantasia (like myself) more often have an inner dialogue that is "speech-like", you know actually speaking words in a language

Or (like me), more often just "vibes" and their inner thoughts only becomes language once these need to be expressed

I'm familiar with managing Mastodon and GoToSocial, but am not particularly happy with Mastodon and feel GoToSocial may be a bit complicated for general users as there is no default front end (I still love you GTS)

Is it me, or is the new feature the MOST USELESS tool ever to be designed? It overloads a button, making you take an extra tap to boost, not to mention having to read and target a new menu with a finger or a mouse? In case you didn't know, it is hidden under the boost button in the Web UI. It allows you to quote a whole toot, annotate the quote, and ask, if necessary, if the poster will allow you to do so. The poster can revoke permission.

...to quote something, copy and paste only the content you need. Be sure to include the user's handle if you want to attribute the quote.

Nobody that would abuse quoting, that is would misappropriate or twist a toot's meaning, would use the feature. They will copy and paste. This leaves the remainder of the community doing an extra tap, with the extra dexterity required for potentially challenged users, while trying to figure out why they would use the feature in the first place.

I’m on the floor of a replacement bus from Venlo to Mönchengladbach.

According to the Deutsche Bahn app of another bus floor dweller, we will arrive in Mönchengladbach at 13h37. I need to get to St. Wendel. The bus I need to take from St. Wendel departs at 16:31. Will obviously miss that one. Next busses depart at 18:31 and 20:31.

It seems like I have 2 options to get to st Wendel from Mönchengladbach:

1. Try to catch 13:41 train (optimistic), then continue with only 2 transfers to arrive in st. Wendel at 18:35, take bus at 20:31.

I’m kinda done with Mastodon. It’s been my main spot, but it’s missing quote posting, which drives me nuts—I just wanna comment on posts without resharing everything! Also, it’s eating up my server’s resources, and I’m running a bunch of stuff on one machine, so I need something that doesn’t hog CPU or disk space.

I used Akkoma with Mangane frontend before and really liked how light and customizable it was. Problem? The database got huge, and I couldn’t find simple tools to clean out old stuff. It was like digging through a messy closet. I’m thinking of trying Akkoma again, but is there a way to keep the database under control?

I’m also looking at Misskey—it seems fun with quote posting and a cool community. But does it use a lot of server resources? How hard is it to back up or move to another server? I’d love Mastodon API support since my clients need it.

Good day folks. I need your thoughts. I've started a NonProfit called BT Free, btfree.org, and I'm hoping to get thoughts on a question I had.

Do folks think it's ok if I link to the donations page for BT Free during Fireside Fedi and mention it during a show as well? I want to focus on the guest, but I'm going to have to start asking about donations somewhere, but I don't want to ask if folks think it's not ok.

Please boost this out so I can get as many thoughts as possible on this. I'm new to all of this and I really appreciate everyone's thoughts. Thank you all for being here and doing all you do!

Got to ask: What do you think is a better overall choice for a general purpose tablet form factor device: one that runs a mobile OS (and therefore is probably well familiar with the interface and hardware its working with), or one that runs a full, actual OS like Linux/Win (and therefore is far more flexible and customizable)?
